May is a freaking nut job by which all other nut job’s are judged. Born with a lazy eye, her mother had her wear an eye patch to cover it up so that kids will like her. So a little girl wearing an eye patch to school is going to make things better eh? The eye patch doesn’t work, kids point, laugh and make fun, kids are so damn cruel. May’s psycho mother gives May a freaky ass doll for her birthday one year and tells her “If you can’t find a friend, make one.” This my friends begins what has to be one of the better psycho films in a long time.
Angela Bettis nailed the part of May, she plays a fucking nut like nobody’s business, I don’t know how many times during the movie I said out loud “This chick really is freakin’ crazy!” And every time I looked over at my wife’s face, she just had that wide eyed, dropped jaw look. Absolutely bars on the window crazy. Her co-worker Polly isn’t much better, but she’s only mildly weird and ditzy, what a pair! Not a lot of gore, some blood, nothing that really made me wince, but it was decent. Anyway, May is on the hunt for someone she can call a friend, her relationships keep going down the toilet, and finally she snaps and decides to make her own friend. What follows is something that resembles a cross between Carrie without all the supernatural stuff, and Pieces.
One of the only things that got to me is that May didn’t just become crazy, she was well on her way during childhood, and by the time she reached adulthood I’m sure she would have been committed, either that or at least she’d have been given some lithium tic-tacs, there’s just no plausible reason why a person this disturbed is amongst the populous, but it’s a movie and I accept that. Another thing is that it takes a while to get going, but once it does, LOOK OUT!
