I’m sure that if you went to see this film you will understand when I say that I had to be very careful when asking for a ticket for this film. No need of making the ticket teller blush or somehow getting myself reported for uncouth behavior. I’ve a feeling though that this week many people laughed as they uttered those words to get a ticket. “What you want a ticket for?” “The Fockers.” This film is the sequel to one of my favorite films, Meet The Parents. I thought that film was pretty original, and it kept you laughing most of the time. I’d place this film on the mantle of other sequels that don’t quite live up to their predecessor.

I do applaud the additions of Dustin Hoffman as the elder Focker, and Barbara Streisand as the Motherly Focker (not intentional honest:)). With the addition of these two stellar actors, actresses we are shown the background that Ben Stillers character Greg Focker came from. It’s a total swing from his fiancés parents, and especially her father Jack Byrnes (played by Robert Deniro), who is a retired CIA operative. These two very diverse, but explosively funny families will finally meet when their children decide it is finally time to get married.

The film is a stand alone peace in the fact that you can get into it without knowing much about the first film (sort of like a soap opera), but for me it is missing the same type of ump that I liked so much in the first. The main story seems to be the father’s distrust of Greg Fockers true past, and his attempt to find out what he thinks is the truth.

It bogs the story down, and all the little side stories should have been paid more attention to since they are more interesting. For his own part, Greg Focker tries to hide what his parents really do, and what type of atmosphere he grew up in. His stay at home father, and sex therapist mother are terrific parents, but his fear of Jack leaves him pent up, and afraid most of the time.

The character of Jack Byrnes is a little more over the top in this film. Might be because his daughter is getting married or not’ but the character is not the same as the first film. In the first film, you could understand some of his motivations’ but he takes it over the top in this one. I still think this film is worth your time, and who knows, you might enjoy it a lot more than I might.
