Best friends Smalls and Benny are throwing one hell of a party in order to impress the girl of Benny’s dreams. But thanks to a nearby accident at the Frumcorp Medical Testing Facility, the next few hours are about to become quite a buzzkill, for as the party rages on, the dead are going to be dropping by to say hello and have a bite to eat.
Forget Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn if you really want to crash a party do it in style, do it with the living dead! And that’s what you get in the independent film Die and Let Live.
I got the chance to check it out for you all and I have to say I was fairly impressed.
The film is more or less a zombie spoof that mixes one part splatter with one part laughter mixed and shaken with some witty banter and spiced up a bit with Troma regulars Lloyd Kaufman, Trent Hagga and Debbie Rochon. So like Paynecraft, it goes down nice and smooth.
The film’s opening has a very good feel to it and it would fall nicely into any zombie film, from there though it goes into a coffee house setting where we meet our heroes Benny and Smalls and get some back story on them, while small cuts show us what’s going on with the zombies. This part was a little slow and seems to go on a bit to long with Tarintino like dialog at times, but here is some decent munching scenes in between conversations to keep you watching.
From here the film flows into the party scene and the true fun of this film really begins. The last part of this flick when the zombies finally over run the rattan privacy fence is a blast and I felt the film crew did a great job and came up with some excellent gags to get a good laugh from time to time. I mean what other zombie flick asks the question, “What would happen if a zombie hopped on an inflatable raft?”
Yes, Die and Let Live is a small budgeted flick and some of the acting is a bit wooden and not everything feels as if it was as good as it could be, but the fact is it has some hot babes, including a red headed goddess, some cool brews and some very entertaining moments. This is a film made buy a bunch of guys who like horror movies and went ahead and made their own, their way and that is not a bad thing and neither is this film. Die and Let Live may be a great stepping stone into a great career for Channell and friends.
