A virtual-reality video game gets ported to real life and one of the best players in the country gets the opportunity to try to win a robot version of the arcade game. The problem is that Evolver is programmed to win at all costs.

My sister and I rented this when it first came out. I enjoyed the storyline and the way everything played out. Basically, a kid wins a robot from a virtual reality video game and has to “play” the game in real life. What he doesn’t know is that Evolver is a failed military project that was abandoned because the robot started to kill people and got “too smart for its own good.”

Everything about this movie is pretty cheesy.

From the acting to the effects, we’re given a healthy dose of cheese, but this movie can be a lot of fun. While there is a girl’s locker room scene, there’s no nudity. The kills could be much better and there’s no gore.

What’s cool about the robot is that after each level, the target that must be hit (with a light gun) gets much smaller and after each level, more destructive items are found and made projectiles.

I personally like the thought of a robot that comes back after each kill and becomes harder to kill while doing whatever it takes to complete its objectives. Essentially, this movie is nothing more than a made for tv movie, but I think it’s worth a rent.
