Aren’t I lucky?
I managed to get sneak preview tickets to the opening of Candy, an Australian film about love, poetry and heroin, featuring Heath Ledger and Geoffrey Rush.
Generally speaking, I’m not a fan of love or poetry in film it’s pretty hard to depict either without getting intolerably cheesy. Sometimes, it feels like poets in film just recite in a breathy, whispery English accent, and that’s supposed to be mysterious and profound.
No, it would appear that I’m watching this film just for the heroin. Ever since Trainspotting, heroin-chic has outpaced coke chic as the coolest mystical dragon ride to portray in film.
