I am always up for a good Almodovar film they’re usually funny and wildly entertaining, even while exploring dark and sombre themes.
This year’s Cannes Film Festival included Almodovar’s latest film, Volver, and it won the award for Best Screenplay. Clap-clap-clap when it comes to theatres in Australia, I’ll make a point of going!
Volver features Penelope Cruz as one of the main actors, and those of you who have seen her in English films Vanilla Sky, Blow may think that she’s only good at being irritating. In her native Spanish, however, she’s quite endearing to watch.
Almodovar kept a little blog while making Volver, and it’s a pretty entertaining read, as he describes a conversation with a man who fell asleep while watching one of Almodovar’s films
I just ate a chocolate covered pastry that claimed to be filled with custard but was actually filled with whipped cream. I moaned in anguish as I bit into it, realizing that it was more delicious than I could have ever imagined.
For one thing, the chocolate covering was divine. if you’ve ever bought pastries at one of those cheap, street-side bakeries, like on Enmore Road, or in Chinatown, you might have bitten into something that looked like a chocolate eclair only to pull back in disgust. The chocolate coating tastes like wax, and is only chocolate looking.
It’s a travesty, I know.
