On the twenty-first of November the cinemas started displaying horror anthology You Shall Not Sleep Tonight, consisting of six pieces from various directors, which is portrayed as a single movie. In this review we are going to elaborate on all of these stories while making it clear that it is yet another genre film junk that litters the Ukrainian box office.

The movie, without the credits, is an hour and 14 minutes long, which is a big plus. Out of the six stories available, one of them is mostly normal and the monster makeup is decent looking.

An 8 or 9 year old boy is terrified of a monster hiding in his closet. To calm the scared child down, his father attempts to soothe him with a bedtime story and guides him with the idea that the boy is sufficiently grown up to deal with his fears. This story, which is going to be very loosely, shall we say, align with a number of other creepy mini plots that will later on appear before the viewers eyes. The local show has a total of six installment children horror shorts. The authors of almost every one of them, and this shows quite a bit, are trying really hard to pass off their simple works as some sort of genius film. But their mock serves with baffling outcomes or hidden detail are laughable, as if they aren’t just hoping to catch viewers with easily forgettable films their films feature monsters in the closet. It is like they are trying to make art where there is none and it certainly does not help matters.

Here’s the video on the creepiest horror movie story plots ever captured in folklore! The fascinating world of drectional art blends flawlessly with creativity and nature.

The film was produced by Black Mandala, which is known for their low-quality horror movies. They have made movies like Devil’s Tail, Red Book Ritual, and The 100 Candles Game. Most notably, One of them is the producer in It’s Crumbling. It does feel like Black Mandala has found their space in the movie producing world, but I wonder if people even watch it. My guess is no. “Grains“, the first story from “Grains” collection that tapes is produced by B-m-d, alongside art direction from Zaffora, Setting it looks very much like so, her multifaceted skillset shows in the and mark too. Along with the creepy corn field of the opening scene of the Jawbreakers, the Losing boy studded eyes too make for the perfect silent remake.

And in the end, it is the very same monster that has set out to abduct the kids for who knows what terrible purposes.

The audience is then asked to see the typical protagonists the scared son and father who was introduced in the synopsis. Their journey in “You Shall Not Sleep Tonight” by director Luciano Montes de Oca is a through line and fills the space in between the shorts. This is not very exciting for a candlelight afternoon: scared child, father tries to calm him down while sometimes saying and doing quite unpleasant things.

Then we move to a scene of level “a child hiding under the bed from a monster”, the monster being a burned man which instantly reminds us of the recent Azrael. The ending, as expected will clarify where the monster’s legs comes from, but it is definitely not capable of surprising. The third arc “The Last Seance” by Laura Kulik refers to the genre trope of “séances and communication with the dead” and is a bit more interesting as a concept but in execution the plot is satisfied with few screamers from the average supernatural horror film and an ominous but predictable ending, and that’s all.

The fourth, ‘The Plague’ by Guillermo Carbonella, is an account of an adult granddaughter who plans to take her sick grandfather to a nursing home as she is fed up with taking care of him. But the sudden arrival of rifle-toting tough guys, who briefly appeared in the first scene like they came out of a film noir, produces consequences that are quite the opposite. Of the other, rather mediocre, tales, this one stands out as the most trivial and least profound.

Philippe Mello’s fifth short film, ″Sleepwalk″, is by far the most eye-catching piece. Unlike the previous films, Sleepwalk lacks a degree of gloom with its overtly saturated scenery. That is, the local road in the middle of desert cacti and the steadfast man with the appearance of a Texas sheriff is more reminiscent of ”From Dusk Till Dawn” rather than Wan’s supernatural horror. The complete lack of paranormal infernal also works in accord with this, since there is no underlying need to set out a flaming argument in order to function correctly. Rather, the base of the story simply revolves around the surprise twist of an apple pie rather than an attempt to frighten you. At one stage, it may look to some like we are witnessing the elder of the “American Pie” main character, simply because of how desperate the character looks to have the bakery product. But, all jokes aside, this is actually the most sane story we have here.

At last, the sixth and final portion titled ‚My Blood’ by a duo of Ben and Julien Deck draws distinct parallels to famous horror films featuring exorcisms. It equally employs conventional clichés. While the director still attempts to offer an interesting spin in the conclusion, it does not change anything significantly.
