The Mothman Prophecies is supposed to be based on actual events that happened to the director of the film. We start the film watching Richard Gere playing as John Klein (New York Post Journalist) living a perfect life with his beautiful wife (Mary), star of the fabulous tv show Will and Grace. Their life is going along beautifully until she sees a strange apparition that causes her to have a car accident.
After waking up from the accident she is incoherent at times, and starts to produce artwork that depicts a strange mothlike creature. These mothlike creatures or apparitions are described as mothman. They are usually sighted when catastrophic events are getting ready to take place or they do just the opposite and save lives.
Could these be angels? Demonic vs. Godly? No one knows. We are thrown about four years in the future. Workaholic would be a good term to describe Ricard Gere’s character until he takes a drive that takes him four hundred miles from where he isntended to be. He quickly discovers that there are more people that have had experiences with these mothlike creatures.
The town of Point Pleasant is having a rash of sightings. Many are like the ones his wife had seen. The movie has a true x-files feel to it. You don’t know what you will be presented with from one frame to the next. The only big problem is that it is very slow in developing. It is good enough to keep you interested until it picks up speed though.
