It has been said that ‘to be the man you have to beat the man’ (Rick Flair). Never is this more true than in the film “The Man” a rip roaring comedy fest that I enjoyed more than I should have. The story is quiet simple. A case of mistaken identity places Andy Fidlar (Eugene Levy) in more danger than he could think possible.
He’s on his way to a Dentist supply convention when he inadvertently grabs a paper and becomes involved with a police investigation headed by Federal agent Dick Vann (Samuel Jackson). In order to solve the case Agent Vann must take Andy Fidlar with him (against his will if necessary) to find the killers of his partner. If you’ve had the opportunity to see any of these two men’s work you will know that they are at the forefront of their craft.
Samuel Jackson, in my opinion, is the number one actor that they would call to play an angry black man. In this film he fills out those shoes quite nicely. On the other hand, Eugene Levy has made a living at being the slightly moronic, nice-guy who has been put upon character. He’s stellar as usual in his performance.
Although I wasn’t really looking forward to checking this film out when I received the ticket I have to say that it was a pleasant surprise. This film kept me laughing, and that is something in itself in these trying times. So if you need to see a film that can take your mind off your problems if just for a moment this is it. Enjoy.
