Review
Playing on the fears of early 90’s white America the Hughes’ brothers depict an image of the young and volatile black youth. In this world death and violence is the norm. The Hughes’ brothers create a near apocalyptic view of inner-city life. This world is run by immature youths who just don’t “give a damn.”
But in the maelstrom there is a sense that the individual does have options and does have choices. Mencace II Society does not apologize nor does it ask for your sympathy. This is what street life is. If it frightens you then perhaps you should consider the sociopolitical points of views that are evident in the film.
Commentary aside, Larenz Tate shines as the stereotypical super predator that was widely disseminated by early 90’s media. His role as Kevin “O’dog” is noteworthy and makes you wonder why his career has not been more successful.
