Review

I really didn’t know what to expect coming into this movie but I was very pleased when it was finished. We follow the journey of Creasy (Denzel Washington), a former hit man who has fallen from grace due to his addictions. After taking a job in Mexico City with a wealthy family as a bodyguard for their daughter, Creasy gains a new lease on life and forms and special bond with daughter Pita (Fanning). When Pita is kidnapped and Creasy is wounded trying to protect her, the plot and movie really start to pick up.

From this point Denzel goes renegade under the rader and takes it upon himself to do whatever is necessary to find Pita and her captors. There are serveral twists and they are all awesomely believeable. Denzel is a real bad ass when he want’s to be in this movie, and the moments of him kicking ass are the film’s best.

I’m pretty sure this was “based on a true story” which is cool but I’m sure events are fictionalized for effect. I won’t give away the end but it’s rather satisfying. Also, Director Tony Scott did an excellent job attaining a certain mood and feeling with the shots and locations in this movie.

If Mexico City really is like how the movie depicts it, then I don’t think I’ll be vacationing there anytime soon. While this movie is in the action category, it could easily be classified as a drama. There is excellent acting with a good mix of explosions and this is before Dakota Fanning became obnoxious and started playing every role that requires a young girl in trouble.
