A former hostage negotiator (Willis) is faced with the crisis of trying to save one family, while his own family is being held captive.
Review
The problem with this movie is pretty simple the premise how will a police chief save the lives of one family while his own family is threat end if he makes any rescue attempt for the initial hostages is often forgetten about entirely because there is far too much going on.
The first half of the film builds nicely, setting up Willis as a former, scarred hostage negotiator who finds himself faced with a situation similar to his old line of work. The problem is compounded when faceless bad guys kidnap his wife and daughter, threatening to murder them if Willis tries any sort of rescue mission to save the first set of hostages. If it sounds tricky, it is but it also creates a moral dilemma that should have allowed the movie to go above and beyond your typical action fare.
Instead, the writers couldn’t seem to settle on any main story line, weaving various evil doers together and creating a confusing climax that leaves the viewer shaking his head. For a mindless, fun time on a Saturday night, it’s a worthwhile rent. Try to pick apart the holes in the plot, however, and your brain will be held hostage by all the absurd attempts at logic.
