I figured I was bored so I could go for some ultra low budget horror. I figured clowns can be scary right? Honestly I didn’t expect much, I was planning on playing video games as I watched.
Problem with my plan was that this little micro budget film sucked me right in during the opening scene holding my attention for the entire 70 minute run time. This flick was surprisingly good!
The film opens with this 300lb dude doing a hilarious Mark Walberg in The Departed impersonation as a bad cop. It was cheesy yet hilarious. That phrase sums up the first half of the film, cheesy and hilarious.
The plot goes like this. A group of friends go up to an abandoned cabin in the mountains for the weekend (I know very original) Their trip is interrupted by some freaky 7ft tall serial killing clown. This plot is nothing earth shattering but it’s in the details where this one shines.
The dialogue was very entertaining. Hats off to the writers of this. I have no idea who they are but they had me laughing my butt off throughout the film. With great lines like “Why don’t you and Louis write a disco song and jack each other off to it” you know it’s gotta be gold. I can’t emphasize enough how comical the banter between this group of friends was.
This leads me to the cast. I really liked these characters. They had a great vibe to them that reminded me very much of the cast in the original Evil Dead. They provided a great combination of being likable, funny, and cheesalicous. I actually cared about what happened to each and every one of them.
The villain of this was a big creepy bastard. Not the kind of guy that will haunt my dreams but still kind of scary. The way he carried himself and his mannerisms along with being a clown gave him a nice touch.
It’s kind of an unwritten rule that micro budget films play really shitty local band music that is used at inappropriate times throughout the feature length. However these guys didn’t follow this rule. The music was great. Not as in great music but appropriate and used in all the right places. It was almost like having another actor.
