Three tormented schoolgirls use a Ouija board, a notebook and a pen to put a curse on the popular girls making their life hell. (Oh noes! Girlz are meen!) The leader of the trio admonishes the other two that whatever they do they mustn’t open their eyes. No matter what, their eyes must stay shut or the spirits can enter. So what does she do? Yeah, she obviously never saw Raiders of the Lost Ark. The next day the first bully is dead and her death is ruled a suicide. Because someone would kill themselves by putting a plastic bag covered in lighter fluid over their head and lighting it up. Uh huh.
With girls dropping like (crispy) flies a teacher from the village, his psychic friend and the new mysterious art teacher will try and figure out a 30 year old mystery before the ghost completes her revenge.
Wow, who knew something could become cliché so fast? Long black hair hanging over face? Check. Ghost showing up over peoples shoulders? Under desks? Check. Slowly raising head to show eyes while spooooooky music plays in the background? Check. I think at this point the best thing to do would be to take all the long haired ghost girls and have them duke it out in a Battle Royale. The winner can continue to make movies. Then maybe this over saturation will end.
It did have some things going for it. The cinematography is very stylish and the soundtrack, when not telling me to be scared was good. The deaths are well done and some scenes are a little creepy but overall the movie is just meh. There isn’t anything here we haven’t seen before and done much better and loads scarier. In fact that’s probably its biggest problem; the movie just isn’t scary. The Asian ghost thing really freaked me out, probably more than most, and even I couldn’t muster up one single chill.
Many things just didn’t make sense. If Seat 29 has been haunted for 30 years why the heck would it be left in the classroom? Also, regarding the girls from the past and present that are being tormented, if you thought someone was Eeeevil would you really be mean to them? A spooky ghost kills people in spooky ghost fashion then inexplicably become a raving scissor maniac? And the very end, well I can’t tell you, but trust me, it makes no sense.
