After eight failed attempts to conquer Earth, the alien known as the Leader has finally come up with his most diabolical plan. By controlling the reanimating corpses of the recently deceased, the Ruler hopes to have his zombie army march onto the capitols of Earth and usher in his dominance of the human race, the only thing standing in his way are a pilot, his wife, a couple of patrolmen and a police inspector.

Plan 9 from Outer Space has become the best known worst movie of all time due to it’s truly horrible sets, acting, dialog and every other aspect that went into the making of this film. But that is also it’s catch, as it will reel you in for multiple viewings and hours of enjoyment. The one true masterpiece of the good bad movies, Plan 9 From Outer Space is the Iliad of horror sci-fi. Written, directed and produced by Ed Wood, Plan 9 is the living, breathing work of an actual Dr. Frankenstein, and this is his monster.

The plot is straightforward, but it never matters as the story comes and goes as it pleases, jumping from scene to scene. Watch as the scenes go from day to night in the blink of an eye, or as cast members will be dressed or holding different items in nearly every scene.

Then there is the cast itself. Gregory Wincott and Mona McKinnon star as Jeff and Paula Trent, the hapless couple stuck in the middle of the Leader’s evil plan. The Ruler is played by John Breckinridge and with his face paint and hippie beaded spacecraft that looks like exactly like an apartment, you know the weak minded humans do not stand a chance. Also Bela Lugosi, Ed Wood’s boyhood Idol, has a role as the Ghoulman.

Lugosi, who would die four days into shooting the film, would be would replaced by a friend of Wood’s who would cover his face with a cape and continue the role of the Lugosi character by sneaking around in the dark. Rounding out the cast is former pro-wrestler Tor Johnson, who plays the tough inspector Dan Clay and Wood film veteran Vampira who plays Vampire Girl. Finally in the role of the film’s narrator is the Amazing Criswell, a psychic conman who was a great friend of Wood’s. He cast friends and relatives of people who helped finance the film, Wood also convinced a Baptist church group he was making a religious film, you can imagine how truly bad it is.
