Short Summary
In order to move on from a painful breakup, both sides of a couple have their memories of the other one erased.
Review
An incredibly unique movie that is easy to watch over and over again, this is perfect for men and women. Carrey puts to rest any doubts that he is a capable dramatic actor, while Winslet shines as his better half. The story is based around each person’s desire to erase the other from memory, only for Carrey’s character to have regrets during the process. The result is an arc of events and memories that catapult the viewer from the present to the past and back again.
This really is a beautiful, well crafted movie. It sends a heart warming message to all, but doesn’t cross any overly cheesy lines while doing so. It’s very well written, with a different twist on any sort of typical romantic comedy. Each character is explored in depth and the viewer is fixated on the consequences of each’s decision to forget the other forever and decide whether or not there is eternal happiness for the perpetually ignorant.
