Summary
Recently divorced and trying to care for her daugher, a woman (Connelly) fights off demons from her past and her present living situation.
Review
Give this to Dark Water you won’t wonder where the name came from. In just about every other scene, some opaque H2O is leaking, dripping or overflowing from ceilings, faucets and the haunting past of Dahlia Williams (Connelly). As a troubled mother, recently divorced and out to prove that she can care single handedly for her daughter, Dahlia moves into an unpleasant building on Roosevelt Island. The plot moves along slowly, building to an ending that leaves the audience more perplexed than frightened.
The movie is more suspenseful than scary, relying on Dahlia’s questionable mental state than any sudden shrieks of horror. It’s effective, albet fairly boring. And the ending leaves one unsatisfied. Fortunately, Connelly is there to look at throughout, making it impossible to not recommend the flick to anyone that cares to stare at sheer beauty.
