Shark Tales’ much like its predecessor Finding Nemo‘ takes us to the world of the oceans and the fish that live there. This time out, we are introduced to Oscar (voiced by Will Smith) who has big dreams. He wants to live life on the top of the pile instead of the bottom. When a little lie that he tells grows out of control’ he must find his way back to himself. Nevertheless, what a mess he has to find his way out of! From his actions he has the head Mafia Shark (Robert De Niro) after him’ and it does not help that his little white lie has labeled him “Defender of the Reef”. With the help of the Mafia Don’s son Lenny (voiced by Jack Black). With the help and support of his good friend Angie (voiced by Renee Zellweger).
Will Smith does an excellent job of voicing Oscar’ and the animators fill the character with the personality of the actor. The story is simple’ but holds enough thrills to keep you interested throughout. One stand out voice performance that I would like to discuss is Renee Zellweger. She is fast becoming one of my favorite actresses for the simple fact that she has it all.
She dominated in the film Cold Mountain’ stole the show in Chicago’ and touched the heart of America in Jerry Maguire. Although the film is enjoyable it was not as good as Finding Nemo. This might sound hilarious since I’m talking about a cartoon’ but there was no character to connect to on that upper plane. Sure’ the character of Oscar is fun’ and the character of Angie holds the strings of the heart’ it doesn’t come up to the same quality. This is a good film for the family’ and is recommended.
