Summary

In his seminal work, writer, director and actor Spike Lee explores the origins and underpinnings of urban strife and race relations. An exquisite cast which includes, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Danny Aiello and John Turturro, deliver powerful performances that drive this character study.
Do the Right Thing can be viewed from both a casual or scholarly point of view. The questions that Lee explores are extremely important. He forces the viewer to ask questions of authenticity and agency. The vibrant and colorful character of this narrative disseminate a message that is unmistakingly American. Do the Right the Thing forces us to confront certain realities. In the end there are no bad guys and there are no defined explanations. Those conclusions are left up to the audience
Do the Right Thing is both hilarious and tragic. Watch for an early Martin Lawrence performance that is indeed memorable. A driving soundtrack from Public Enemy serves as a chorus to the film.
