Sebastian Cain is a brilliant and extremely arrogant young scientist, he has been able to create a formula that allows the body to turn itself invisible. There is, however, a drawback to the process, the longer anything stays invisible the more hostile and aggressive it becomes. After being told he cannot have any human subjects, with the help of his team, Cain injects himself with the serum. After the initial experiment and a few hours of observation, the group begins to try and reverse the process. After nearly falling into cardiac arrest, Cain can not be brought back to the visible world, now with the clock ticking Cain and his scientist must try to cure Cain before madness sets in.
Directed by Paul Verhoven, Hollow Man is an exciting and thrilling spin on The Invisible Man. Sebastian Cain is played by Kevin Bacon, who as always does a terrific job. Bacon plays Cain as the cocky scientist you love to hate, but at times you will also generally like the character. We also get Elisabeth Shue as Dr. Linda McKay, who was and may still be linked to Cain in a romantic relationship. Also Josh Brolin stars as Matt Kengingston, Sebastian’s more moral companion.
The effects in Hollow Man are top notch. The transformation scenes are very well done, although personally I like when they try to make him reappear better. From the moment he gets the injection you can watch as the serum goes clear through his body. There is a lot of “shape” effects however, by that I mean you see Cain in water, smoke or frost. There is also a great scene where Linda throws a bag of blood on Cain and it bust and runs over his face and body, it creates a very creepy and nasty image.
