Director Tim Fywell’ who seems to have more experience in the television world than film at that time’ brings to life the film “Ice Princess”. Starring Michelle Trachtenberg ‘the hot sister in Eurotrip’ as Casey Carlyle, we are witness to a math geek transforming into an ice skating vixen. Funny thing is she didn’t even know that she had the desire until her math experiment for formulating formulas for skaters drew her in.

Of course, there will be soon type of animosity or roadblocks thrown in her way’ and they come in the form of her hard willed mother Joan Carlyle (played by Joan Cusack)’ and her coach Tina Harwood (played by Kim Cattrall) who happens to be a disgraced former skating champion. With these two powerful women going against her, will our little Casey survive? Answer’ this is a Disney movie.

With her introduction into the world of skating Casey is subject to three girls who are fighting for a chance to go to Nationals. Tiffany’ Nikki’ and Gene are the best there is to offer’ and we are shown the ins and outs of skating through their eyes. They also happen to be the popular girls’ a spot that Casey figures she will never know about’ and the natural seperation from Casey is automatic. Although I don’t believe in a million years that someone would honestly contemplate throwing away a good college education to run after a dream that might not take them anywhere’ everyday life has taught me that somewhere out there somebody is proving me wrong.

I like the fact that the film is saying follow your dreams’ but I would have liked it better if it would have at least spent a few minutes telling us what her desires cost her. It’s all fine and well to follow your dreams’ but to leave the film on that note is a cop out. Gene Harwood (Hayden Panetierre) character is more to my liking in the film. She’s the daughter of the coach.

A coach I might add who wants only the best for her daughter. Through the intense practices’ and long hours we our shown what her personal sacrifice is costing her. No Saturday’s just to chill out with friends’ and the lack of study time. On the other side of the coin, we have Casey Carlyle who has a chance to go to Harvard on an academic scholarship. She feels invisible to the world until she puts on a pair of skates.
