The first Jeepers Creepers was only marginally entertaining for me, though I applaud the Horrorist for making the savvy observation in his post that sometimes the unhappy ending is more effective.
Keeping that in mind, only one sequence in Jeepers Creepers 2 worked for me the opening, with the kid in the wheat field. There was a nice, ominous vibe reminiscent of the final shot in the original film going on. Maybe if the film had continued in this vein, Jeepers Creepers 2 would have worked. Instead, we get yet another substandard, needless sequel existing solely to line producers pockets.
I agree the effects were well executed, but they were pulled off in service of a really bad film. Some random advice for student filmmakers who might want to try their hand at a film like this:
If the monster tears a hole in the roof of the bus your human characters are trapped inside of, it’s probably not a good idea to have the characters launching into asinine philosophical debates pertaining to who should live or die every ten minutes while standing right beneath the SAME HOLE! Corollary to this It is also inadvisable to have one of these random dipshits stick their head out of the hole to see how things are going up there.
A close up of the grinning, fedora wearing monstrosity which results in his looking like Fred Krueger genetically spliced with Alfred E. Neuman isn’t scary. Ever.
If your director is a convicted pedophile, do NOT allow him to populate the film with teenage jocks taking their shirts off. That’s creepy for precisely the wrong reasons.
