Short Summary
Both halves of a married couple discover that the other is a professional assassin. Chaos, violence and humor ensue!
Review
Brad Pitt is John Smith. Angelina is Jane Smith. They are trapped in a boring, loveless marriage within which both sides hold a rather large secret from one another they are each professional assassins. The set-up is intriguing and the chemistry between the two stars is undeniable (just ask Jennifer Aniston). After an entertaining 30 minutes, however, this punchline is beaten to death in a movie that drags along once each partner’s identity is revealed to the other.
We get the point after the first cute exchange between flying bullets and explosions; thirty seven supposedly witty one-liners and pieces of dialogue later, as the pair trades playful insults and heavy weaponry, the story line gets tiresome. It’s a one trick pony, as some would say.
Ths specifics of the plot how each determines the identity of the other; how they seek one another out in murderous attempts; how they come to discover the details of a more in-depth conspiracy are not the focus of the film. All the writers seem to care about, and the only enjoyable aspect for viewers, is the attraction between the two leads. While it’s fun to question whether scenes together in bed were part of the script, or merely hidden footage of real life activities, a movie needs some substance behind the style of its actors in order to be worthwhile.
