There are just some matches ups that when you hear of them just strike you as legendary Ali vs. Frasier, Oklahoma Sooners vs Texas Longhorns, the list could go on and on. With the new film featuring the legendary killer in your dreams Freddy vs Jason the unstoppable nightmare of your earthly existence you a matchup that pits horrors top two killers in a slugfest that definitely will be thought of in the same regard.
The events of the film supposedly take place before the events of Jason X in which he was thrust into the future, and upgraded into an even more deadly killing machine. For the purposes of this film that should be completely erased out of memory since the Jason that is present in this film has none of those abilities.
Freddy and Jason have been dead, and gone for some time with both finally finding a final resting place for themselves. As in all of the two movies combined we know that this won’t last for long as Freddy tries to regain some of the former glory that he has lost since the neighborhood that he use to terrorize has slowly forgotten about him. There now resides a whole generation that hasn’t been affected by his nightmarish touch, and the older generation would like to keep it that way.
Freddy has a plan that will increase his power enough so that he can start his terrorism on the community that he calls home. Awakening the sleeping killer known as Jason he uses him to gain a foot hold into the world of the living. There is only one problem with his thinking though, and that is the simple fact that a force of nature can never be controlled, and within that little statement lies the grain of sand that sparks the fight of the century.
Both of these horror film giants have suffered from films that have quickly went from being scary to almost whimsical in nature in there ongoing quest to continue their respective series. I am happy to report that at least for this film there is a semblance of a storyline that rests underneath all of the mayhem that is caused.
The most important constant that remains in this film is the director remaining true to both characters evil qualities. We still get the quick talking Freddy ready to tell an unsettling joke at just the right moment, and we get the non talking giant who seems almost unstoppable although suffering injuries that would stop a normal man. The action when the characters finally do fight had enough oohs, and ahhs to satisfy fans of both.
