This film directed by Diane Lewis shows us the inner workings of the rock band Venus De Milo, and their journey from unknowns to stars. What the film tries to show is what happens to a group of friends when they finally reach the star that they have been trying so hard to reach. The originators of the group Dan, Marc, and Michel have rocked, and rolled as the band The Stone Rockers with nothing to show for it.

Tired of getting nowhere in an industry they so want to be a part of the decision is made to hire a lead singer that will earmark them as a different package from what they represent now. This new group, which is composed of Dan (Simon Boisvert), Mila (Diane Lewis), Marc (Sylvain Latendresse), and Linda (Natasha M.Leroux), Michel (Sebastien Boivin) quickly descends into internal strife after finally garnering the success that they have craved.

The film is watchable on many fronts, but you always get the feeling that it is just skimming the surface of the characters makeup. Movies such as The Doors allowed the viewer the opportunity to almost experience first hand what stardom brought, and the affect that it had on the human being. That personal touch is missing from all of the characters of this film as we watch them, but never really feel connected to them.

Without the connection to any of the characters one would look to maybe the music as being the next thing that would catch your eye about the film, but on that front there is also a disappointment to the quality. I’ve had the opportunity to view other films from the makers of this film, and can attest to the fact that some of the complexities missing in this freshman outing were corrected to a point in their other two film endeavors.
