A wonderful movie that proves that Denzel Washington is a top notch actor. This film is about integration in the south as black students begin to go to school for the first time with white students. The football team is the nucleus of the story as we follow the adjustments these young men have to overcome to enjoy success on the football field.
This is a true story of the 1971 T.C. Williams team of Alexandria, Virginia, which was the first integrated football team in the south. This movie is full of fine acting, and a good story. Denzel Washingtons character steps in as the first black head coach of a southern school in the civil rights era. To the towns disbelief. The coach that was in charge was top notch, and has a lot of support from the community. Over time the barriers slowly start to break down as the players are faced with actually having to play together with the black players. What follows is something stronger than what they could have accomplished seperately.
